The Telecom Rigger is responsible for safely working at heights to install and maintain telecommunications equipment such as antennas, microwave dishes, radio units, cables, and supporting structures. The role requires adherence to safety regulations, technical procedures, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Climb telecommunications towers, monopoles, masts, and rooftop structures.
Install, align, and secure antennas, microwave links, and radio equipment.
Run and terminate feeder cables, fiber optic cables, and power cables.
Perform tower reinforcement, structural modifications, and rigging operations.
Conduct inspections of towers and telecom equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair faulty telecommunications infrastructure.
Follow site-specific safety procedures and use fall-arrest systems.
Complete work reports, site documentation, and inspection records.
Assist in commissioning and testing telecom equipment.
Work with engineers, technicians, and project managers to complete projects on schedule.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement).
Telecom rigging or tower climbing certification preferred.
Working at Heights certification.
First Aid/CPR certification (often required).
Experience in telecommunications, construction, or rigging is advantageous.
Valid driver's license required.
Safety Requirements
Strict compliance with fall protection procedures.
Daily inspection of climbing and rigging equipment.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Understanding of rescue procedures and emergency response plans.
