The O&M Protection Engineer is responsible for ensuring reliable operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems in power generation, transmission and distribution networks. The role involves conducting relay testing, analyzing system faults, and ensuring compliance with industry protection standards to maintain system integrity and prevent equipment failures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Protection System Operations & Maintenance:
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of protection relays and control systems in substations and power networks.
• Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on protection schemes to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve protection system failures and abnormalities in coordination with the O&M team.
2. Relay Testing & Commissioning:
• Perform relay testing, configuration, and calibration of protective relays.
• Coordinate with SEC (when required) to validate protection settings and ensure proper relay coordination.
• Assist in implementing modifications and upgrades to protection systems.
3. Fault Analysis & Troubleshooting:
• Analyze power system faults using disturbance records, event logs, and relay data.
• Recommend corrective actions and improvements based on fault analysis.
• Coordinate with system operators to respond to system faults and outages efficiently.
4. Compliance & Documentation:
• Maintain accurate records of protection settings, test results, and maintenance activities.
• Prepare technical reports on relay performance, protection coordination studies, and incident analysis.
5. Coordination & Communication:
• Work closely with National grid, maintenance teams, and OEM vendors to ensure protection system reliability.
• Provide technical support and guidance to field engineers and technicians.
• Arrange training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in protection engineering within power transmission, distribution, or generation.
• Experience in O&M of substations, transformers, circuit breakers, and associated protection schemes.
Technical Skills:
• Knowledge of protection relays from major manufacturers (Siemens, Schneider is mandatory, while GE, SEL would be an added advantage).
• Experience with relay testing software (e.g., Omicron, Doble, Megger).
• Understanding of SCADA, RTUs, and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3).
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay logic.

Work Environment & Conditions:
• The role will be based on Rabigh Solar PV Plant.
• On-call availability for emergency fault response.
